TITLE: Transportation Information Management System (TIMS) Database Administrator
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred;
2. Previous experience with the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS) or another information management system similar in scope and complexity required;
3. Demonstrated superior customer service skills;
4. Demonstrated data management skills and technological savvy;
5. Geocode Certification from UNCC ITRE (NC State Law), UNC Charlotte Urban Institute contracted by NC Department of Public Instruction preferred or must be obtained within one year of hire;
6. Such other qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
JOB GOAL(S):
To perform a variety of technical duties related to the operation and maintenance of Transportation Information Management System; and to provide technical staff assistance to the Director of Transportation. Perform daily student uploads, geocoding, boundaries, reports, communications with various departments (DOT, State, City Planning), TIMS maintenance, backups, analyze data, problem solving within TIMS software, various other duties as asked by supervisor.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assumes primary responsibility for the TIMS operation. Plans, organizes, and controls the overall computer operation related to the district TIMS program. Stays abreast of program requirements; projects the processing requirements for the program.
2. Performs TIMS data gathering procedures from multiple sources. Converts data and ensures that data is entered as required. Ensures accuracy in reviewing boundaries for TIMS and GPS system.
3. Gathers data from principals and bus drivers related to school bus routes and stop locations; researches and verifies data on street names, street addresses, traffic patterns and street networks.
4. Identifies one-way streets, speed limits, railroad track crossings, streets with medians and streets where buses should not travel.
5. Gathers student data for input for the program; researches and corrects student data inconsistencies.
6. Determines effective bus transportation system models by manipulating bus stops, routes and schedules.
7. Answers inquiries through multiple sources (phone, email, mail, etc.) and provides stellar customer service for TIMS related issues.
8. Analyzes/solves system software issues, unmatched student geographic data.
9. Resolves issues related to geocoding; adding streets; restricting turns; identifying hazards; street attributes
10. Sets up and maintains simulated/projected files in multiple dataset for future school year; summer school; extended school year; etc.
11. Maintains/backs up multiple datasets.
12. Utilizes Windows operating systems and other Microsoft office applications to include MS Word and MS Excel.
13. Troubleshoots techniques and analysis of system applications and related TIMS supporting hardware to include servers and network printers/plotters.
14. Assists supervisor with local and state reports.
15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month year. Salary in accordance with the adopted schedule.
